That's terrible. Not exactly the greatest of thought processes if the article correct, but still terrible.
I agree with Jeff, no night boating. And kudos to the "possibly drunk " guy swimming 2 miles without a PFD.

I used to cross the Sound all the time, practically every weekend. You need to be on the ball, be 360 degree vigilant, no alcohol, maintain strict night vision, know your waters and follow marked channels, keep the speed low, and know the lights on the ships/tugs. People have been decapitated running between tugs and barges with the cable, it's a long distance between the tug and barge and those barges are horribly lit, not sure why that's permitted but it's a fact and people need to be aware.
I don't know what happened in Chicago but my thoughts are with the families, very unfortunate.

I'll still do it, just much slower than I did before, I find night boating in the Sound such a wonderful experience. Not sure I'd do the city however, that's a bit outta my comfort zone. Usually Northport Harbor to Norwalk, or Pt Jeff to Norwalk for a longer jaunt.
