Water Restrictors
#1
I just ordered a set of these to experiment with - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...FQlbhgodTVkP7A
I run 140 stats with several holes drilled in them and a small bypass line from the crossover to the T-stat housing. My port engine runs about 15* hotter than my starbord engine. Neither run hot enough to worry about, but the difference agitates me.
I wonder if the bypass is causing the stat to flutter, but I don't want to spring the money right now for the housings with the carve out that keeps the bypass water off the stat. I also don't like having to come back to my lift and run the engines at 2,000 RPM's for 15 minutes to get enough heat in the motors to open the stats and get a good flush so I am going to experiment with these restrictors. (I doubt my neighbors would be upset if my flushing time went from 30 minutes to 5)
Has anyone that has used them got a recommendation on which one to start with and where your temps fell out with each size? Any feedback on temp difference between the sizes?
Eric

The only down side is they are aluminum, saltwater will eat them up.

I figured I might have to replace them every year or two, but as cheap as they are I won't worry about it.
I'm going to try them out the last couple weekends this summer and then possibly do oil thermostats over the winter.
I feel like that would help get some heat in the engines and oil while also letting me feel better about the getting a thorough flushing

I tried them in my blower engines years back. They did nothing, except increase water pressure in the block, and reduce water flow to the exhaust. I went back to no thermostats, and never had an issue due to running cold water temps.
