Default Considering a 250.

Looking at Baja's the late 80's early 90's 250's or larger. I would like some information. Things to look for or be aware of when looking. Is a trailored or dry boat better than a boat left in a slip all season? How many hours are considered high?
I am completely new to boating. I have 3 kids this boat will be a family thing.
Thanks for any help.
