I hope I am not the only one to have this problem!

i bought a great hull it is an Italian boat produced by the Carlo Riva in a company he set up when he sold his Riva company.
the hull was design by Bob Hobbs the interior is more Italian elegant style rather than racing style (sorry...). it is a stepped hull with my old engines I hitting 60mph and with proper engine should go 70mph! the boat appear in "james bond: Golden eye".

Now the bad news i discovered by checking the casting numbers that in fact I have on the left side a recent 502 gen VI standard rotation LH (about 200 hours) and on the right side an old 454 'reverse rotation") Mark IV!
Obviously I want to replace the old 454 by a new 502 but these seem to impossible to find the limiting factor is the RH camshaft that are a struggle to find

so itis relatively easily find 502 standard rotation !
but how to find a New 502 Reverse rotation??
or at least a RH camshaft that can be mounted in a new 502 gen VI Block??

So its an inboard V-drive ? hence the need for the reverse rotation............cool boats

- 2x502s
- 2x72c 1:1
- 2 Big (truck like) shafts to the V drives that are mid boat for better weight balance and shallow angle
- 2xBPM V drives 1,17:1 superbe heavy duty Italian V drives tested for 10000 hours minimum!

Just need the right engine to be a 502....

Can't Marine Kinetics grind you the cam that you need?

I reversed one my motors. Cam. Distributor gear and starter.

Can't you just get a timing gear set instead of the chain. Change the distributor and be done with it?

Have one of the Cam Companies ( I use comp but anyone can do it ) grind you a reverse rotation cam , Or you might be able to find you a 2 Gear drive ( Like the 3.0L Chevy) to run the factory cam in LH rotation , while your crank runs in the RH Rotation. You will also need a reverse rotation starter .

The gear set will allow the crank to turn RH rotation while the am still turns normal. It's all you need. No big deal.

It is great idea but none of the engine shops proposed this option...

I like to gear option but never seen it on a 502 and no shop proposed it.

Re camshaft Grinding a cam is the option
But was lazy I guess trying to get a motor ready to go...
