Default boat mold questions

Ive always wondered how a boat company comes to exist and all the different hull designs out there but not many if any are patented. Ive owned over a dozen boats and a few id love to have back like everyone I'm sure. With older boats being worth more in parts then whole. I see decent older bare hulls for sale all over the place. What stops someone from buying a hull popping a mold and having at it??? So just a few questions ive had rolling around....

What is the boat mold making process?
Is the original hull and cap destroyed in the process?
What are the legal rules or problems you can run into just making a mold of a existing boat and start making them???

You may run in to the same problem the original manufacturer ran in to - lack of buyers....

original hull is not destroyed. fix the original hull, fair and polish etc..... then wetsand the hell out of it. pva and mold release, spray gel, lay glass and reenforce. poof you have a mold. There are anti splashing laws though,

So pretty much any good fiberglass shop automotive or marine could be commissioned to make a good mold? What are the anti splashing laws?

No definitely not a job for any shop. Your tooling needs to be perfect and to be done right the original may be sacrificed in the process. Building a proper parting flange is important. Its also a risky market, tough for a small guy to compete with the buying power a big manufacturer has when buying engines and drives.
