Default What should I do with my 275 carrera cyclone super bummed out

I have a 92- 275 carrera cyclone open bow cuddy it has a fresh engine with only 2 hours on it . 650-700 hp ..454 bb bored to a 472 full rocker, b&m 250 blower lots of other mods 4 inch lightning headers 4 barrel 850 dbl pumper etc etc .with a bravo one outdrive that i take it easy on ...anyway went out this week and while driving the top cap of outdrive completly blew apart not sure yet if internals and all are o.k but I'm thinking I need to upgrade to a x.r unit which is way out of my price range...my only options I'm guessing is rebuild the one and hope it doesn't happen again or possiblely upgrade to x.r parts and hope for next season I have the money which is probaly slim......or I'm thinking sell my engine which is about 15 grand buy a new 454 crate I can get for 5 and rebuild the bravo one that way i have a new engine that the bravo one can handle and make money ...what should I do

That is a bummer but possible you expected it in time?

Unknown about your drive i would guess its original to stock power.??. You can try a xr Complete but I feel youll blow it up as well with one jab of the stick after awhile.... save the pennys as you did for the engine and go IMCO. You may want to look at this sites drive section and post there aswell and get some valued opinions..

Cost vs Value..vs forgotten $$ after it doesn't blow up

$15k for your engine is very optimistic IMHO.

Fix it and go again! Buy cheap Bravo 1 spares when you can find them.

How long had this drive lived already?

15K is next to impossible to get for that engine. I totally believe it cost you that much, but selling a used engine of that caliber is tough.
I agree with TXHawk, Buy a 1200 to 1500. used Bravo 1 and go boating. OR..winter is almost here(depending on where you live)....let the boat sit for the winter or until you can save the money for a stronger drive.

I'm in ontario canada so I'm done for the year anyway and I was basing price of engine in canadian currency considering our money's worth jack compared to u.s 10 grand canadian is close to 15 u.s ...I'll check out the imco stuff bUt I suppose I could just keep doing bravo ones and hope for the best....I thought xr completed were good up to 900 hp ? But then again like u said it's how u drive it

Usually the top of the case is is busted when the top cap goes. I would not bother with an XR. If your current case is salvageable, build up an X drive and go boating until you can do an IMCO SCX. XR's will not hold up to 900 HP. Merc only puts them behind 600 and even then, depending on the boat and driving habits, they don't last long.

I always put used b1's on my scarab(supercharged 509's) and had good luck. I would not consider an xr a stronger drive so don't waste your money on one. Before I bought an xr I would buy three used b1's and just roll!

No free rides in this game. Previous boat.....broke a stud off the XR top cap, totally trashed the upper. Bought a brand new XR, broke a tooth off the forward gear, locked up drive and snapped the input shaft. Got that drive rebuilt. I should of just bit the bullet and got the IMCO after the first drive broke.
