Complete rebuild hotrod / show 22 Classic
I'm building a Donzi 22 that I'm shooting for a balance between speed/power and showy. Planning on putting 800 to 950HP BB in it. Only thing original at the end will be the fiberglass. Seriously EVERYTHING will be new. I've done dozens of hotrod cars from frame up. This will be my first boat. My last boat was an 02 Fountain Lightning with twin 575s upgraded. That boat did 100 at 5,100 feet.
Since this is my first boat build I'm looking for good advice for 800+ HP drive / prop styles. Durability, eviciency, speed. I have available 2001 Speed 6 that uses off shore style prop but i don't know if that's a good choice.
Any educated / experience help or good referrals will be appreciated!
Thank you.

Reinforce the hull under the engine to stop flex. Full hydraulic steering is a must of course and off-shore motor mounts too. 800 hp should put you well in the 90s. 950 hp and you may top Bjorn's 22 in Norway which runs 112. Keep the weight to the rear. Mine only runs low to mid 80s with a stock 525 but I need reliability on the Great Lakes and not looking for fastest speed. Good luck. Hope you keep us well posted on the build. You can attach photos through photobucket. What year hull are you starting with? What color will it be?

Thanks for the input. I know HP alone doesn't equal top speed. I'm looking for the right combo. HP, drive, X dimension, etc. but again, not looking to set speed record. Reliability, durability, uniqueness.
Ordered a Shelby hood and originally wanted to copy the metallic silver Shelby look. But yellow is my favorite color.

Someone on .net is building an Arneson 22 this winter. There is an Ilmor 22 that runs 104. I think it has the Ilmor Indy drive. Several run in the 90s with a Bravo. Not sure what the other fast guys are running.

It's had issues. Weight moved too far forward. Blew up that engine a few months after that video trying to get the boat to plane out. Pretty sure it had a TRS drive at that time. Engine moved forward 18" & fuel tank moved forward = not good. Maybe Stan will get it right eventually.
