Hello,
I have 1995 GEN V 454 MerCruiser Mag EFI #182 block casting (400 hours on engine) with a Procharger supercharger (5lbs boost) in my boat that has a cracked block along with some silver colored oil (I am thinking bearing is failing from the water in the oil) so possible bearing failure but its not knocking and I bought it that way knowing this. I am debating to replace the block with a used stock bore #182 casting or new Chevrolet performance GEN VI block from Summit Racing or just buy a complete plug-n-play used engine? I am estimating that it would be approximatelty $3k to replace the block, labor for machine shop to build and misc parts or about $5k for a complete used engine that i could swap my supercharger on. I was thinking I could sell the good parts off my engine to recoup. I am kinda of leaning towards the complete engine as one of my exhaust manifolds maybe cracked, my oil cooler is cracked and I would want to replace all the hoses and lines that have oil going thru them due to the metal in the oil. I would also replace the lines for the supercharger and have it sent to procharger to be cleaned and inspected. Also, is there a better cam for this motor with a supercharger on it?
Thanks!

i would tear the engine down and inspect all the parts before you make any decisions.if you decide to go with a new block look into chevrolet performance,i recently bought a gen6 502 block,it came from a chevy dealer in michigan,or wisconson, can,t remember and it is to cold to go out in the shop to look at the paperwork.anyway it was cheeper than summit and no tax or shipping, summit wanted a little over a hundred bucks to ship it to me to yorkville,il.

Thanks for the replies. The block was cracked due to improper winterizing or lack of I should say. I live not too far away from Summit Racing so I could pick it up for free. I think it was around $1200 for bare performance block, that's why I was looking at it. Used blocks are around 350-500
