Thanks for taking the time to write that article Shaun. All great points you brought up (breathalyzer checks should be mandatory at all events imo). We have been living through a transformative time over the last 20 years or so, where boat racing has become relatively safe and performance pleasure boating has become very dangerous. It took the untimely loss of Mark Lavin (he was only 32) back in 1986 for the offshore racers/manufacturers to get serious about safety in offshore racing - today's offshore performance boaters/manufacturers need to do the same with this last tragic loss of Garth and Jim. As you know Shaun, I'm doing my part to lead by example with the conversion of my 150+mph inboard Skater to a 120+mph outboard powered rig. Let's just hope that others decide to slow things down after the loss of Garth, Jim and the other nine souls that lost their lives this year in performance boating accidents. Godspeed to all our brothers and sisters that are no longer with us today as a result of high speed boating accidents.

I'd also like to add that it's not safe to let your passengers get too drunk either because they can't hold on properly. I don't allow it. They can drink some but not get trashed.

Trouble is in many cases the most fragile thing in the boat is the owners ego.
