Todd Lamb of ScreamingEagleBoats is building the Talon 22 air entrapment hull. His most recent build is a white Talon 22 SS with a single 400R motor. His last water test of the boat reached a top speed of 115MPH with more speed on tap. His rigging crew were elated as no one knew how the 400R motor would perform. The torque and quietness of the motor were the most noticeable on the newly released outboard from Mercury Marine. The boat also sits very nicely in the water even with the larger and heavier 4-stroke motor. The center pod helps add stability and floatation to the 22 footer boat.
The Talon 22 has lots of usable space inside the cockpit and the front seats slide forward and back for that perfect fit. At speed, the wind-in-your-face is just right for that perfect thrill ride thanks to the windscreen redirecting the wind up and over the front passengers. The rear bench can be built to customer specs.
For those looking for a deeper cockpit, Todd is reworking the 22 XL deck. The XL has a taller stance overall especially the rear deck that houses an I/O motor. The XL can also be rigged with a single or twin outboard motor similar to the 22 SS model.
The cockpit has a builtin liner and makes for a very pleasing neat look and finish. The rear deck hatch on both models can be raised to easily access the bilge area. The construction of the Talon 22 is hand-laid fiberglass and vacuum bagging process. The hull and deck seam are glassed inside and out and makes for a rock solid boat.
Power options for the SS model include single or twin outboard installations. For twin outboards, I wouldn't put anything more than the 300XS motors, if that. A single 300XS would make for a nicely priced turnkey package, and reach 110MPH! The VesselView7 is an important engine monitor unit that consolidates the gauges into one screen and to communicate precise engine and fuel statistics. I'll post new performance numbers for the 400R build as they become available to me.

The boat seating is setup for the owner, Todd (owner/builder ScreamingEagleBoats) is a tall gent and makes the boat appear small in the pics.
The XL model is a taller hull and can handle single I/O, single/twin outboards. Folks wanting a bigger hull would probably opt for the Talon 22 XL model
