The northstar tips on your gun came from the factory that way. They were made by Livorsi.
If you remove the muffler from the tips you will see that the tailpipes from the headers are manufactured to seal against the muffler.

I thought it was Aqua Power LTD muffler tips behind the 575 in 02, maybe not. These were on my boat at one time, I assumed it was original.

I would imagine they used different exhaust systems depending on what was available at the time of construction. I know the boat the OP has is prewired for electric control of exhaust which was not used.
