Has anyone added a wing or deflector or anything like the wing pictured below to the roof of their tow vehicle? If so, did it help reduce the turbulence of your boat cover when towing? Bugs on the boat? Any benefit?

I see them all the time for large RV trailers, mounted on the roofs of pickups and sometimes big SUVs. If I find one I like, based on any postive feedback here; I would adapt it to be added and removed from my roofrack at will. Any thoughts? Any Experience? I would find a much better looking one than this; picture only for concept.

not sure about function, but I think a nice one looks dam C L on a crew cab truck 24/7. Charlie

Troutly's right. Travel trailers are generally higher then a pickup or SUV and boxy. The defector is to redirect the air over the roof of the trailer. A boat being lower , might be worse off , as now your creating a bit of a vacuum and the air forced up will be trying to come back down to fill in the area where the boxy trailer SHOULD be. This could cause additional turbulence for your cover

Don't think it would do much for you but this one on the sleeper might look better . It's called a turbo wing . availible in ALL different sizes from tiny to huge !

I got an idea and it's free . Try opening your tailgate on taking it off . I have had good results with goosneck or 5th wheel trailers that way . Never tried it with a tag along boat . It might just help .

Sydwaz, What are you towin' a cruiser??? The aerodynamic shape of our "type" of boat should do just fine without a wing!! Might keep some bugs and crap off though!!

I know my boat sits higher, at leaast the cockpit rails and wind deflectors do, then the top of my Suburban.
I also have a Cat that is wider then the truck
I know I feel one hell of a wind gust whenever a Semi passes me.
I always get a second burst of wind shack when they first come by the front of the boat then the truck.
My cockpit cover does get air under the front and it bellows out.
I wonder if for certain applications this idea might work

They just came out with this spoiler below for the Avalanche, but I do not see it being functional. I do like to looks of it. I am not going to do both this spoiler (semi-permanent) and the Turbo Wing. Thanks for all of your inputs.

I don't believe a wing on your truck is going to help at all with the cover filling with air or blowing off. Specially when those big rigs blow by you, there is nothing stopping that turbulence. We have found that taking the brown plastic boxing tape, clear boxing tape or shrink wrap tape and covering the seam where the cover meets the boat in front of the windshield solved all our problems with the cover when towing. I added snaps and put in round exit vents on top of the cover, nothing worked until we did the tape job. Again, we only tape the front section under the windshield, no need to tape the sides or back. I use the clear tape so it's not too visible. Easy one and easy off and cheap. Never have had another issue with our cover coming loose or blowing off. Good Luck!!!
