Default How To Lube Motor Drive Coupler

Bought a new boat last summer and the one thing I have yet to figure out how to do is lube the motor drive coupler!? The boat is a 25 outlaw with the 496HO. I see the zerk fitting to grease it, but it is facing down and there is no way in hell to get a grease gun in there. Is there any way to turn the shaft to face the zerk fitting up? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I usually put grease in coupler manually while the drive if off, and also the the shaft splines!

Yeah, pull the kill switch, then click the key a few times to get it where you want.

Forgot to say when i do it manually it allows me to touch anf feel if there is any signs of twisted splines or metal deterioration so on... but the grease zerk work also!

Not a bad idea to check if you have the drive off! But certainly the best way to avoid deterioration and splines is to pull the kill switch, crank the starter until you can access the zerk.

How every you decide to do it, JUST DO IT. Crank motor till it is pointing up or remove drive. FYI: there are 2 zerks 180 degrees of each other.

Here is what happens if you don't grease it. (This was a new to me boat and "all maintenance was just preformed". He must have been sick on grease gun and zerk day. ) Dry as a popcorn fart in there
