New Batteries Needed... Thanks Thief!!
#1
Have the pleasure of updating our batteries on the boat since somebody else obviously needed them more..... Any suggestions on what brand/type to go with? Not running a crazy stereo or mega lights on the boat. Was thinking about the Optima batteries but not sure if they would work with the charging system that is wired into the boat.

That's a bummer, not many things worst then a thief.
I'm all for AGM's, have nothing but those in all water toy's, and to use them you need a charger that can be switched to AGM. Lead acid and AGM have different charge rates. Without the correct charger stick with lead acid and Interstate, Deka and the like
I won't even look at Optima, just not worth it.
Ones I do like and use are Lifeline and Odyssey, would also use Trojan. Good run of the mill AGM are the Duracell which can be had a wally world.

I switched to the Optima Red Top in my last truck when the batteries needed replaced. Never had any issues afterwards. I do know there is a different charge in regards to standard batteries and AGM style. I am sure the charger that is hooked up to the shore power on my boat is the Standard style as the boat is a 98 model. It will probably be cheaper and easier to get new good quality standard type batteries.

Went with a Dekra - 1000 Crank Amp. So far so good.
In the past I would purchase the least expensive battery and just swap out every other year- This may not be the wisest financial decision I've made. Trying a little different approach -
I guess they are all good as long as the boat starts
