Default Anyone have any experience with Prop shaft seal surface repair ?

Need a new outer propshaft, so either buy new or I was reading how JR Marine resurfaces propshaft, they grind them down and then hard chrome the area that the seal rides on. Any one ever get this done before? Would like some feedback?

I am sure there is a speedy sleeve for that size. Or just leave the seal out an eigth inch or so. On the other hand, I am not sure a sleeve would survive a wet environment. Especially in salt. Differential metal electrlisys and all...

I had a machine shop carefully weld up a cut shaft and machine it back to spec.
I had a buddy that had a shop chrome plate the area of the seal and machine it down.
Both worked for years and years.

I can't say what was done exactly, but I brought my prop shaft to a local hydraulic repair shop. Came back all polished looking like new. That was several years ago with no issue since.........100% salt water use.

The JR Marine stuff works great. Ron and crew really know their stuff. I think he will even do an exchange to make the turn around quicker.
