Default Florida Marina Fire

What'ts the poop on the Florida Keys fire? Was surfing the internet wave and saw the picture. Not much news about it tho. Seems odd that it started at 2:00 am or so . Always makes you think its an "accidental" insurance fire. Insurance or not I'm rather attached to my water toys.

There is aftermath pics on THT.

It was not at the marina but at a small spot next door. A family owned lobster biz, it took out their fleet of boat as well as the traps, the traps (wooden) fueled the fire, also damaged a near by home.

I truly feel bad for all those that lost in the fire. That has to suck hard. I can't imagine the screams from the lobsters....

The keys being a series of islands very prone to hurricanes/flooding makes insurance very very expensive. If they don't owe money on their property then likely it is uninsured.

For those who haven't visited, the keys have lots of trailers/shack like homes in addition to waterfront mansions or compounds. New building codes require fortress like construction at high elevations to prevent storm damage/flooding. But there are plenty of old dumpy shacks that have been around for years like this one:

Excuse me while I manually close my mouth. **** it fell open again while typing. That is not for real....
$185,000 for those palatial digs? Then to pay huge insurance premiums too? Because the odds are you will get blown, burned or plain flooded off the island. I thought living in California was insanity. Um, that has me beat.
But I assume people ask those prices, because people are willing to pay. Then I assume that schizz gets torn down and you spend mo money building what you want. So you can be burned, blown or flooded off the island. God bless America for freedom of choice.
