Default 502 oil issue

I have a 1995 272 baja with a 502. My oil temp is running around 300 degrees after about a 3 to 4 mile run at 60 mph. Anyone have a idea why it would get this high?

Thanks

Try a simple backflush of the oil cooler to see if it improves. If it is original a new one may be needed after 22 years.

What model 502 and has it been modified ? Is this a new issue or since you've had the motor ?

As far as I know it is the original motor 502 mpi 1995. I have only had the boat 2 years. No issue last year and b this is the first time out this year.

Okay, oil cooler should be on top of the bell housing mounted horizontaly. Pull water hose off the driver side. Look at the inlet where tubes are and see if it is partially blocked. A flashlight, even during the say could be handy.

FYI: Had one for years (95) and I never checked oil temp so i don't know what is normal. What was it for you ?

The factory cooler are undersized. I'm glad you haven't melted it down. Time to spend a little money and get a bigger one (if that is the problem) High oil temps usually mean an underlying problem somewhere if it is a stock engine.
