Default Baja vs Fountain

I have a 94 Baja 272es with a 502ci Mercruiser with a 3.3L Whipple Supercharger, and multiple other engine updgrades. Probably pushing about 850hp. I have been very satisfied with its performance, but always wonder if there's "a better mousetrap" out there. I have heard that you can only do so much with a Baja hull since it does not have the two step hull like the Fountains. I am considering purchasing a late 90's model Fountain Fever 29, and just wondered if I can expect better performance (speed and handling) out of the Fountain (if powered exactly like my Baja). When you get into the 800hp+ supercharged category, you may just be splitting hairs trying to differentiate performance of the two brands. If there's not a marketable difference in performance/speed/handling if I equip the Fountain with same upgraded motor as my Baja, I'll probably just be satisfied with what I've got. Be interested in educated responses from those who have practical experience with both boats/brands.

I have owned both, a 2004 33 Baja before and currently a 2005 42 Fountain step hull. No comparison. Yes I know the Fountain is longer, but the build quality, weight distribution and running surface are far superior at least in the early 2000s models. At one point the Fountain running surface was referred to as "the most scientifically researched boat bottom in the world". You might consider the 32 or 35 Fountain as long as you are changing boats as those have many more upgrade and usage options.

We had a Baja 272 way back when and a handful of boats later the Fountain in my avatar. Seems like you want to stay with a single so you can drop your power into a single 29'? The Fountain your looking at will out handle, out perform, and feel like a sports car when compared to the Baja that feels like an SUV. We enjoyed our Baja and there are some members on here that have put some monster power in them. If your chasing speed and handling, the Fountain will be a great choice and will not disappoint. A Baja is not a "focused" boat like a Fountain.

Have owned two Bajas and two Fountains, comparing them is like comparing the ride and handling of a Camero to a Ferrari - there is no comparison.
