I'm restoring an old 24 Banana that currently has a trs and a 330 hp 454. I'm wondering if I put a 300hp 5.7 will I loose much performance. I figured the hp is probably the same because the old 454 was crankshaft rated vs propshaft. I also figure the bravo is a faster setup so that will offset some of the difference, and last of all between the motor and drive the weight savings will be almost 300 pounds. So what am I missing here guys.
Thanks

And when you go to sell it..... your going to sit on it with a sbc.....
Usage wise Your going to get bored with a 330 pretty quick, even faster with the 350. Do yourself, a favor... find a 454 mag motor, start with that. it will give you room to grow.

Second, the big block will make more torque in the usable power band than the small block at the same rpm. Sure both motors can make the same power but the small block isn't doing it until a much higher rpm.
I love small blocks and the things you can do with them, but I'd recommend working over your existing big blocks.

Thanks for the info I'm still up in the air as this boat is being assembled for the purpose of running back and forth to Marthas Vinyard when we don't want to take the bigger boat. Its a 6 mile run so not a lot of time will be put on it.

The horse power is similar but at different rpms and torque. For the same speed the 350 will turn a smaller prop faster. That means slower cruise speed for a given rpm, say 3200. The 454 will have more torque and since you already have the setup i dont see a reason not to run it. I like trs drives, nice shifting. Is it a right or left drive?
