ve got a 1979 24' skipjack been doing some small trips out getting comfortable with her and now want to take the trip to Catalina but am worried about fuel. I have a rebuilt 350 chevy with a 2 barrel carb 400 cfm with a Volvo penta 280 outdrive. I have a 100 gallon fuel tank my small trips may consist of 24 miles round trip and I've used 11 gallons and running all day 7 hrs. My top speed is 30 but like how it travels and cuts through waves at 25. So was wondering how much fuel I'll use going to Catalina and back out of Dana point or Newport. Any help is appreciated and yes I have sea tow and an emergency 15hp outboard hanging on transom. Thanks

So looks' like your averaging 2 mpg , so let say you keep 20 gallons as reserve you will be good for 160 mile's on a tank with another 30 to 40 miles of reserve ,
How many miles each way to Cattalina ?

It's 41 miles from Dana point harbor to Avalon bay at Catalina

Look's like you should be more then fine on your fuel if all the #s are correct

fill the tank back up at catalina. just in case it gets thirstier in bigger water offshore. best to find out you burned 60 on the way out before you get halfway back...
