Default 496 Starts in Gear

2006 Formula 330SS with 496's, DTS Serial Number 0w618145

I went to flush this motor yesterday and it started in gear... I cannot get it to shift back into neutral. I have no idea where to begin considering this is a DTS boat. Hoping that someone (BUP) can give me an idea where to start.

Thanks,
Aaron

one is this app should have never started in gear if it is totally OEM stock

possible bad shift in gear switch located on the shift bracket

also possible DTS shift actuator.

when it starts in gear can you pull back to neutral ?

Scan the engine look for any DTS command module faults. Do you have smartcraft system Tach or vessel view to display any faults in short text versions ? ie: display reads as an example : 2 throttle level or 3 throttle lever and so on up to fault 34 ?

CDS reading fault 109 -- shift actuator no adapt possible ? possible but scan will show this if no adapt.

there is oem testing procedures for the DTS and the harness ..... ESC = electronic shift control

I need to think about this a bit more to actually pin down a better answer as well. Working 7 days per week in the f in heat.

Yeah, the boat shouldn't start in gear. It managed to destroy my flushing muffs, cut my garden hose, and scare the **** out of me in shot.

once its running it will not shift back into neutral. I do have smartcraft and and don't recall an error but I'm going to run by there today and verify that. It's a strange situation, thank for the help...

I went down to the boat looked around some more and it's the shift cable that is broken. It is broken between the bellow and drive on the outside of the boat. I haven't done any research yet but I'm assuming that the drive has to come off to fix this. Is there a way to fix it without taking the drive off and doing it on the lift?

Same thing happened to me in a 33 OL, almost ran into the dock had to kill the stb engine, for ease of fixing it, the drive will need to come off, use the old cable to pull the new one into place, its works saw a guy do it.

Tomorrow I need to move the boat down to the shop to get it fixed. I'm not sure if the drive is stuck in Froward or reverse. If it is stuck in Forward would it hurt anything to run on plan with both engines? If it's stuck in reverse can I shift it into forward while it on the lift so I can run on plan? It's a good 10 mile ride to the shop and with one engine that could take all day...
