Harmonic Balancers
When I pulled my STB motor a couple weeks ago I found a bad Harmonic Balancer among other things..... They are cheap Professional Products 8" dampers; I quickly realized they were as we say "undesirable"...So, I will be replacing both the STB and PT balancers. Is the ATI 917060 the end all be all of dampers, is there a reliable alternative? Do I stay far away from Fluid Dampers? Looks like they can contribute to snapping the snout off the crank? So school me on what I need to look for and/or what I need to know when looking for a damper. My motors are internally balanced natural 572s. Thanks guys.

Your lucky ! Some videos out there of the PP dampners flying apart...even new on the dyno.
Can't get any better than ATI. Have your engine guy measure the OD of the crank snout and ID of the dampner...sometimes they fit too tight.

I'm aware of the interference fit between the balancer and the crank; thanks for the reminder tho...

Yeah, sounds like I am lucky.... I understand ATI is a reputable product; just trying to get a little more info. Is there no one BUT ATI? I realize that anyone can say buy an ATI but I'd like to know why and what makes them the hands down choice OR are there in fact other products that people are running w/out any issues.

The damper shall be driven to a rotational speed between12,500 and 13,500 rpm and maintained at that level for one hour.

I would say the opposite for fluid dampner. They are a top shelf product that I believe for some reason are under most people's radar.
