How do they compare in handling? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each design? I'm mainly referencing old school non-stepped hulls with no pad and 24* deadrise. Any input appreciated though.

Good question......
If I was to have an uneducated guess I'd say the sharper keel would handle the rough better but the rounded keel would be faster. (Just to extrapolate the high deadrise V. low deadrise argument)
Hope someone smarter than me chimes in.

rounder better for beaching at higher speeds

Had a 20' rounded bottom V- planed quicker/easier but didn't turn as well (slid a lil more) and pounded much more in rougher water.

No experience with a round keel. Love a sharp keel or pad. Jmo! The biggest thing I have found is cheep trailers are too small of a trailer change the bottom of the boat.

Tons of experience with both. Rounded keel rides harder, leans more in the turns, handles torque worse and is more of a handful at high speeds. Its a 1960s design that's fine on a 65 mph boat. Do not confuse a rounded keel with a pad Noli.
