Going to install a kill switch. Does anyone know off the top of your head what gauge wire most boats use for the purple ignition wire to the ignition switch? I am not near the boat to check. I would guess 12g., just not sure. I do have some 12g. but would have to order 14g or 16g.

OP's 12g will work and connect just fine.

It's smaller than one would expect, 14g at most. If you're running extra length then you need to oversize it for voltage drop so use 12g.

Haven't measured yet, but I would guess depending on where I will install the kill switch (still debating the best place), the run would be not more than 2-21/2 ft. from the ignition switch. There is a chart light, which I have never used, directly above the ignition switch that might work, but with the lanyard hanging down it could be a problem to get to the ignition key.

I looked at some photos I took of the dash wiring and they look bigger, more like 12g, but pictures are deceiving. I am going up to the boat this weekend and will find out what size the wiring is. If it is 14g. It would be nice to be able to use the 12g wire on hand. I have some step down connectors that would be perfect.

Sorry to bother this older threat and you, but: what means "14G" or "12G" is it the diameter or the number of braids?
