Hi I just boat a Four Winns U-19 and was wondering if there were any owners on the site that could possible give me some info and help straightening out the issues I am having. I bought the boat at auction and am pretty happy with the boat so far but I think the original owner has changed some things from stock and did not maintain the boat that well. The boat is a 97 model and it has a new holly carburetor it seems to run good but I thought these boats where EFI? I also have a lot of slop in the throttle assembly and was wondering if this can be tightened up or if I need a new assembly. Last issue was my alternator belt, It burned it up the first time out. I have a new one on but I the one that broke looked new and I think there might be a issue there. I checked the alignment and it looks a little off like 3/8 or so. I don't know if I can space the pulley out a little of what my options are the alternator looks new. Any help would be appreciated I did a search and there were a couple treads on this site so I am hoping those members are still here.
Thanks,
Nick Bigger

none of these issues are model or even boat manufacturer specific. changed from efi to carb? it is what it is. throttle loose? find the play and adjust or replace the cause. belt alignment? possible somebody changed something. 3/8ths shouldn't be enough to kill a belt in a real short time. this is a pretty blatant donzi copy. there is more info on the donzi forum, I would think. but what you need is a mercruiser, or were they mostly OMC Cobra? repair manual.

Thanks for the reply I was kinda wondering if swapping from EFI to a Carburetor was common in boats I do not have much experience with them yet other than a sport Nautique I had a couple years ago. The throttle cables are tight, it is the control assembly has to much side to side play in it. I am going to pull it off the boat this week and try and find a way to tighten it up or look for a good replacement. I guess I was hoping to find a owner or someone who has experience because their is little internet info on these boats as they didn't sell well and very few were made.

You mean the control assy by the steering wheel, or the one on the engine? Is it mercruiser? And if so, alpha or bravo? Four wins only made the hull and interior. Everything else is standard stuff. Controls are Morse or teleflex. Hatches are bomar. Windshield is taylor. Wiring is either merc or whoever made the engine package. It is all common, readily availabme stuff. Nothing is scarce just cuz it was installed in a scarce hull...except the glass.

It is a Volvo Penta with the duel prop. I mean the one near the steering wheel the lever moves side to side really bad and makes it hard to get the boat in and out of gear which makes docking the boat a little sketchy at times. The assembly was loosely bolted to the side of the boat and I tightened it down but then realized the assembly itself is really loose. I might just need to replace it but I will take it completely apart this week and see if there if a set screw or something loose.
Thanks again ,

N, I have a 1996 model since new. The control can be tightened up, but I can't recall how to do it now. If I remember correctly, the "97's came with Chevy 350's, my "96 is Ford 351 with dual prop #9 props. If you want to talk about the boat, PM me with you phone# and I'll give you a call. David

Thanks for all the help I will try and space my alternator bracket or pull it off and shave a 1/4 inch off the alternator side so it moves forward. I also read that a wider belt can help keep it from getting to far into the pulley groves so I might buy one for a spare in the boat. The boat hull number is FWNMU024C797 so it is a 1997 and has the 5.8 ford motor. Looking forward to getting this out on the water again.
Thanks,
Nick
