Default Hi-liner

Hi, has anyone had any experience with the HILiner hulls that were designed by Ray Hunt, similar to the bertram 20? I am looking to downsize and came across a bare hull, looks like it would make a great mini-fisherman.

Default The HiLiner design was an excellent Hunt design.

The HiLiner Marine owners/fans got a great Facebook Group and they're a great resource for info. I've only been in a HiLiner Gypsy for half a day many years ago, on the Sacramento delta, but I would say it's equal to a Bertram 20 in so many ways that it's a toss-up except in name recognition.

"The HiLiner was designed by C. Raymond Hunt in the 1960's. Ray Hunt is best known as the designer of the Deep Vee racing hull that he originally designed for Bertram and is now found on most small powerboats intended to be used in open waters. The HiLiner 222 is the 21' 6" foot version of this hull. The molds for the HiLiner were created in 1968 in Mattapoisett, Ma by Allen Vaitses. The HiLiner molds bounced around a lot and HiLiners have been built in Manchester, NH (see 1971 pamphlet front and rear), Fall River Ma, and, from 1978, in my home town by Peter Sylvia. Peter stopped building HiLiners in the 1990 recession and his last hull was his personal boat named Mr. Wizard that was built in 1992."

There were two out here in the early 70's . One C/C and one 'cruiser' . Nice looking and running boats .
Some years back the C/C was restored and it needed a lot of work . If you're looking at similar vintage remember they had wood in the construction and an original gas tank is going to be way past its best by date .

The Hiliner hull is the 2.0 improved / refined version of the Bertram 20 hull.
Ray Hunt spent a year and a half on the Hiliner design and he also experimented with a water ballast system in the Hiliner.

FYI - you would shed a few tears if you saw the condition of "breakaway" today.

We had a runabout with Mercruiser 888 (302Ford 2bbl) from new in 1974 (I believe) to about 1989/90. Was a good all round family boat. Bought and used in NH.

I've got 2 of these hulls which were splashed off a Hiliner hull. One is a cigarette style with a 454 and the other is a center console with a 225 outboard. I would put these up against most any comparable sized hull for rough water ability & speed in a conventional V bottom.
