Default Americans Can Now Cruise Canadian Waters ...

... without reporting in to Canada. Just don't fish, drop anchor or go ashore. I've always cruised Canadian waters without reporting anyway but now it is officially legal!

I too just saw that earlier this week. That is nice but wish it would also said we could go to Pelee without having to check back in.

Have lived and boated on the Detroit River and Lake Erie for 20+ years. Never knew it was illegal... Have been stopped by both Canadian and US Coast Guard and those miserable pricks in the OPP as well. No one ever told me I wasn't allowed to pass thru Canadian waters. I knew if you came in contact or boarded a Canadian vessel then you had to call in along with anchoring or docking, but didn't know passing thru required a call as well..... Hmmmm Learn something new each day...

The old official policy the way I understood it was that we could cruise Canadian waters only while underway from one point to another in the USA. Like I said though, I've always boated deep on the Canadian side of Lake St. Clair and other areas with no problems. Glad this new policy clears things up though.
