Default Auto Insurance

Just purchased a new vehicle and got my bill from Travelers Insurance, seemed high so i decided to shop.
Geico is half for the same coverage and Elephant was within a few bucks of Geico.

I've been with Travelers for over 12 years, 2- houses, 6 + vehicles, Umbrella policy.

Any suggestions or companies to avoid? Definitely need to make a change!!

Thanks

I was with Farmers for 20+ yrs, I knew I was paying a premium price but Im good friends with my agent so I just let it ride.....until a couple months a go they were going to raise all my premiums 8-10% across the board so I switched to American Family.......saved 800 a year just on the prime residence. Total saving was about 2k per year for everything.

There is no reward for being a repete customer. I ALWAYS shop around and find a better price. Also consider no matter how long you're with a co., if you make a claim you have a great chance of being dropped. My father made a claim with Allstate after Hurricane Andrew, he was with them 25 years, dropped before the next renewal. Insurance companies and employers are not "for" you.

What did you buy Lin?

I have been with State Farm since I was 15, and they've always done right by me. I did price out Liberty Mutual at one point, and it was cheaper for me. However, they would not insure my big boat (now sold) and hence that would have complicated my PLUP as well, so I stayed with State Farm. I should revisit.

I've heard good things about Elephant and Liberty Mutual. Do yourself a favor though and talk to your favorite Body Shop BEFORE you switch.
They will give you the inside goods on what parts they spec and how easy they are to work with . Most of the cheapy companies go for aftermarket and used parts exclusively. This usually adds more to the labor costs, which of course is cut to bare bones, and you end up with sub-quality repairs. Elephant and Liberty Mutual were two that ranked high in NOT having this problem last time I investigated switching. State Farm was above average.

I will dispute that a bit. My agent and the two ladies that run his office are like FAMILY to me. I've been with this team since 2000 or so; and they have fought for me multiple times. They have fought underwriting to make sure they covered my 37AT. They have fought to make sure I was always listed as on their highest tier (lowest premiums) when I was borderline, and THIS is why I have not left to go to a cheaper option.

I realize that the Insurance Market is trending away from individual relationships with your agent/staff etc. etc. But that's not the case with State Farm, again/alas why I have stayed put.

I too have been with State Farm for many years. The agent is a boater and has covered things for my Dad and I without blinking an eye (My dad saw him in a social setting and told a story how he got fishing line around a prop shaft that cut the seal, fluid leaked out, and blew the drive roughly 18 months earlier. The agent contacted the repair shop, got a copy of the receipt/work order, and sent my dad a check for the claim they discussed that evening)

We shop Insurance every couple years but considering the service we get we're not switching for just a few bucks. Like Sydwayz he has 2 ladies working for him and it sure seems like they remember who I am the second they pick up the phone (Is your agent in old town Ashland?).

I work in the collision industry. Do not get geico or progressive or any of the other no name brands. You get what you pay for. I deal with all insurance companies nearly everyday. Geico and progressive do not want to pay to repair your vehicle correctly and use the worst junk parts they can find. The no name companies take for ever to process claims or even come out to look at vehicles. I personally have State Farm. Usaa is the best if you qualify. Jeff wurl

My agent is in Northern VA. They will cover you, but go with Russ' agent first.

I stuck with my NoVA team even though I moved south, since they stuck with me.

There's a good seed in every bunch. My SF agent did nothing of the sort, nor has my Allstate or homeowners agent. Throw their hands in the air, claim they are tied and count their profits.
