Default special permit needed to navigate in NY area?

friend of mine got arrested 2 years ago and got like a 1000 dollars something ticket because he did not have somekind of a special permit needed to navigate in this area... I'm not talking about the DTOPS decal for 30 + feet vessel, wich he had, and I also have. there is more than this that is apparently required

i googled it without any luck finding what I'm looking for...

Anyone familiar with this special permit? where to get info? so on and so forth?

Thanks!

Matt Trulio did an article back in November on ABC Permits, probably will have your answer and set you and/or your friend up in one call

he had a baja 405, and i have a small sonic, 8.6 beam so no wide load permit needed on the road!

I've boated quite a bit through Long Island sound, inside the bay in Long Island, and a little upstate. Never heard of or had a problem with any type of permit.

I've run around Manhattan many times, never bothered by any law enforcement. Never heard of any permit. You are referring to NYC correct or NY state in general. Also spent most of my life running around Long Island Sound, never hassled by anyone.

Jeff,
Would you please share details on the charge against your friend and the violation that incurred the fine? That would help narrow down exactly what type of permit you're looking for.
