Default 2000 454 mag mpi starts and dies

My 2000 h2x ran perfect last time out. Now it is doing a couple things and I'm not sure if there connected. When I go to start it will just click probably 10 times them finally fire and idle on the hose for a few min then sounds like it loses fuel and just dies. It will fire right back up repeatedly and immediately die. Let it sit 20 min it will fire bank up and run a few min and die again. Just changed oil, fuel filter, water pump, and new kill switch. I can hear fuel pump running. When it dies out its on the hose with hatch open so I don't see how vapor lock could be a issue. Very new to boats so any pointers would be appreciated.

I would start with checking batteries to see if they have at least 12.5V. Next remove both ends of the negative and positive battery cables. Clean both ends to nice clean shiny metal, and look under the insulation jacket for anything green or white in color

thanks for the reply! Shoulda mentioned I checked bat volts 12.9 on both....i did see a little green on one of the pos cables going to one battery. Which would make sense for the clicking and no crank, I just don't see how once started that would cause it to die.... think there sepereate issues by chance?

That variance could be from the accuracy of the volt meter, 12.73V is 100% charge. It could also be the key switch of loose connection. I mention the key switch is just had my boat out this afternoon taking so readings and testing a bit. Shut the boat down and turned the key later and nothing, no click no nothing. Worked my way up and pretty sure the key switch is taking a dump. Managed to get it started again and got it put away, will replace later

I think I'm gonna go ahead and replace ignition switch to rule it out its cheap enough

And easy enough to bypass without replacing,

You said you just replaced the kill switch, try bypassing that

Check the voltage at the starter.

Does it stall if you increase rpms to 1200 or so?? If not could be an IAC.

ill check that in the morning and bypass the kill switch. Haven't tried increasing rpms when it cold starts but when it does die and fire's back up I tried throttling up and nothing.

Also try just changing one thing at a time, I know its time consuming, but if you change several things how do you know what worked and what didnt...... also check the fuel pressure, you can probably borrow the gauge from autozone and it just screws right on to a shrader valve.

voltage issues - batteries - connections / cables and corrosion or loose - slave solenoid issue

Fuel pressure issue ? Fuel restrictions and or issues with - fuel pumps - fuel pressure regulator

and your fuel pressure is ? fuel pressure with just key on engine off is ? fuel pressure when engine is running and it needs to be very steady

Fuel pressure when the engine dies is ?

Voltage before cranking the engine is ? Voltage while cranking the engine and or while it clicks is ? Voltage when the engine dies is ?

run engine on fresh gas and remote gas tank with new fuel line and primer bulb - like what outboards use - use primer bulb while engine trys to run --- did anything change ?
