I know this topic has been covered several times, but I don’t see what I’m looking for. I’m painting my bilge and decided to go with Rust-Oleum and Valspar hardener. I don’t know much about the stuff, but see a lot of people using it. I’ll be using brush and roller. My question is, are you guys using respirators while doing this? Fresh air supply maybe? The warnings about the hardener got me a little iffy about being trapped in a bilge with just a fan for ventilation. I’ve got a niosh approved 3m respirator too. Anything else I should be concerned about saftey wise?

Had great success with it, had a mask, did it out doors with fan and bilge blowers on...lol. Works great. Sets up quickly, make sure to measure. Easier if you mix up small batches at a time. Good luck with your project

A local Body Shop supply or parts store will be able to get you a Universal Enamel Gloss Hardener .
It used to be available at Tractor Supply , but I think the VOC laws have made it harder to find .
I buy it from a Local guy and it is made by Cumberland Products , I use it with Rustoleum , Valspar
and the other popular Enamels

Valspar 4625. I mixed a pint at a time with 1 oz. hardener. Bottle says 1 8oz can to a gallon so I broke it down. It was still tacky after 2 hours. I was hoping not to paint myself in a corner but happened anyway. Others have had success with this combo. Looks good, just didn’t dry as quick as I thought.
