Default Here’s a riddle, Runs in start but not in run

I’m getting everything perfected on my boat (ha) for a big trip in the Bahamas this weekend, replaced the voltage gauges, and water temp gauges Monday. Go to start the motors yesterday afternoon, left side normal, right side will only run with the ignition switch in the start position. As soon as you let it go back to run position, it dies. I’ve looked over my panel wiring, looks correct. I’ve manually jumped fire on the switch, it’s not the switch. I’ll delve into it further this evening when I have time, but was wondering if anyone would have some input. Thanks guys...

Check the plug on the motor for bad connection and make sure you get ignition power there. Do you have kill switches in the boat make sure its good and cap is tight. It will run because it has an extra wire off the starter to give it a little more power when cranking motor over not sure if you know that or not.

Have you checked kill switches? You must not be getting 12 volts to the coil on the starboard engine, which should come from the ignition switch.

Thanks guys it was an easy fix. The wire that goes to the distributor from the instrument panel I had put it on the ground pin instead of on the correct pin so it was a dead wire instead of energizing the distributor. Good to go now thanks!
