Default Tach not Working

A friend of mine just bought a 2001 25 Checkmate with a 502 efi in it, when you turn on the key the tach goes all the way over and stays pinned doesn't move, do you think this could be a bad ground or just a bad tach?

try the pole setting on the back of the tach first even if its in the correct position - move it with a small blade screw driver and back to the correct position.. also make sure no connections are touching each other and properly tighten but not over tighten.. Report back if no fix

My 1986 VDO Tack started doing the same thing. Will be at the boat in a week and was going to try the connections and switch contacts. Mild beating on the dash does work for a while. HaHa Thanks Bup
