Default Prop advice

Good morning everyone !

Going to be replacing my 502mpi with a fresh 555 making around 650hp. Current drive setup is a bravo with 1.5 ratio and dual external steering rams. Boat is a 26 foot ( 99 model so really 24 foot running surface ).

Turning a 27 pitch hydromotive to 5k with the current setup. Question is will this still be enough given the new horsepower ? New power is looking to be around a 5400-5500 rpm at wot.

Sounds like a nice setup that will really scream once dialed in! Good that you have hyd steering from a safety aspect. At the speeds your combo is capable of, hyd steering is a must.
You have a light fast hull which will help your Bravo live. Run a drive shower, change oil 25-30hrs, no jackrabbit starts getting on plane, keep prop in the water!

Always try the prop u have a baseline with. It will tell u alot. The 27p will be too small if you are spinning 5k now. You'll likely end up in the 29-32p area with future combo. BBlades and Hydromotive have prop testing programs to dial in your setup.

What speed are you running now? Stock 502mpi?

Don’t think the motor is stock. Bought it from a reputable OSO member that put Gil manifolds dry tips and some camshaft at the least in it. Runs right at 73-74 with two people and 3/4 fuel.

Sounds like where a 260 with a 502 mag would run.

Sounds like a great setup. If it was mine... would at least run that 27 for breaking in the 555. It will also give you a great data baseline to pass along for the new prop build/selection. Good luck and can't wait for the results!

As you are in Jacksonville, you may want to give Mike at Hall Propeller a shout. He is in Christmas Florida and very familiar with Velocity. Also worked quite a bit with the factory and race teams.

Thanks Padraig, will reach out to him. I think the 27 i have now should be a god start should be able to spin it easily without a lot of trim to start.
