Default ECM/PCM wont display correct engine hours.

I am trying to read the hours of my newly purchased 04 Baja 20 Outlaw with a Rinda Techmate. The main engine hour display screen shows "0.0" hours. The rpm history shows a whopping 276,000 hours all in the 1500-2999 rpm range. All other rpm ranges show "0.0" hours. I talked to a couple of techs at PCM repair places and they were stumped. The unit looks like an ECM 555 according to the pics supplied with the Techmate manual, but the unit has no label that says "555" on it. The label just says Motorola/Mercury ECM. In addition, all other readout functions of the ECM read correctly. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have a seen a Verado do the same thing. I was using the Mercury CDS so I know it wasn't a software issue. I contacted Mercury Technical support and they were pretty much stumped about it as well. I never made it any farther than that one phone call as far as trouble shooting. The engine did not have any running issues, and was out of warranty so the customer just decided to let it go. Being on the back of a pusher boat for a bardge hours wasn't really a concern.

Thanks for the response. The Techmate is new and the ECM is an 03 model, so I cannot imagine that there is any type of software issue, or update needed for the Techmate. I will keep at it....

Internal Memory loss within the PCM for a Jist of it. I could look at this for you.

Thanks. I may have the ECM looked at over the winter since the boat is running fine. Not a lot of summer left and I don't want to lose any boating time.
