When are we going to move on. Why are we still using 50yo tech. I know a few company's like Marine Power have had an LS but why is the industry so resistant. Cube for Cube their is no discussing which makes more power and torque. When is Merc and Volvo going to join in? Volvo Bought 7 marine and it is an LS outboard so they would seem to have a huge advantage if they wanted to make an inboard version of that motor.

Volvo Penta went LS in 2013. I suspect Merc was reluctant because you will always be required to adjust when GM does. If GM makes a change to the base engine platform, Merc, VP, PCM etc. have to change with them. That can get very expensive if GM makes short run engine. Look at the 496, parts and cores are tough.
Merc is the only one left. Volvo, PCM, Crusader, Indmar, Ilmor, Marine Power etc. have all followed GM.

I know they are around just dont know why they have not caught on. 2 of these in a 32 fountain would be a Beast. Anyone have a 32 or 36 for sale without power???

Merc is just using there own design. I think in the near future you will see the 400-800hp BBC go away with Mercs own design come in. They can do everything in house and this helps keep the cost down, where the smaller company's don't have this leisure.

They can when they are building them in house vs buying them from GM. Different business then Marine but I can tell you I first hand that the company I work for can build a motor for about half the price then what GM would sell us the same motor for.
