Default reverse rotation 454 distributor issues

I know this is a long shot on here, but has anybody dealt with gen VI big block engines killing distributors because of the reverse cut cam/dist gears pulling down on the distributors ?
thanks Rob

I only have experience with the mark IV RR motor. Are you using a RR distributor gear?

this is a gen VI and they use a timing chain and a reverse cut gear on cam and dist, which when running pulls down and kills the dist at the top at magnectic pick-up

I believe there is a special distributor you need to use that can handle the downward gear force, you can’t sinply put reverse a rotation gear on an otherwise standard distributor

You need a special distributor that has a bearing at the top to handle the downward forces. Had this issue on a reverse rotation 502 a few years ago....it ate 2 distis before someone smarter than me figured it out. Wish I could be more specific.

know of that dist, marine power makes it, problem is it uses a plastic bearing that cannot be lubed without disassembly, I get about 50 hours out of those before the bearing fails. Last season had that happen, bought another new one from them, dropped in would not even start..no fire, swapped out old module, started and ran, but under load ran like crap...they promised me a replacement dist all season long, never got anything after several calls...finally got $$$ back after going thru credit card co. I tried a early model HEI with a hardened washer in the upper end with 700deg lube, still failed after about 5 hours. Last attempt I have a slip collar DUI in it trying to remove as much top to bottom clearance as I could, does work for now, but as season growing to close, still not sure if this will last either. I am looking into going back to the gen IV flat tappet cam and gear to gear timing set as when I had that setup never had a issue. I know clearance to ft cover going to be a issue, even looking at machining the gears thinner to get to work. I have been dealing with this for about 8 years now and pretty much lost the last 2 seasons due to this. So really grasping at straws if anybody went down this road...or if anybody else made a dist with that bearing that lived. I was told mallory did do one but after MSD bought them out it was discontinued..thanks Rob

All of our Napcar Distributors were MSD . and they had bearings top and bottom. Your reverse gear should fit right on.
