Well after my engine issues (see previous threads)
Need advice on new 401 SBC stroker build
Widebands and sensor location
I dropped in the new engine and have 3-hours on the break-in. I also have the Wideband installed, one in each riser and gauge in dash (Innovate DLG-1). I’m checking to get opinions on my AFR numbers with the stock jetting etc. I’m new to the whole wide band setup and numbers etc. And I’m still in the break-in period so I haven’t hit WOT yet so these are my initial numbers with just setting timing, adjusting float level and adjusting idle mixture screws. Here are my specs.
SBC
Dart SHP block
402 CI
JE 2618 dished pistons (9.1:1 CR)
Crower rods
Crower crank (internal balanced)
Profiler 185cc heads (Ferrea super alloy exhaust valves/comp plus intakes. Pac beehive springs)
Comp Cams (270HR-12, 218 int./224 exh. 112 LSA)
RPM Airgap
Quick Fuel 650 DP
DUI HEI distributor (Timing set at 34 btdc all in at 3k)
Here are my AFR numbers, in gear:
650 (Idle) 13.2
1500 13.2
2000 13.4
3000 13.6
3600 13.9
4000 12.5
What are your thoughts? Advise?
Thanks for the time.
Jim

I don't think anyone can answer you question to be honest, my 460 reads 12 to 13.1 at idle but it has a large-ish cam which will kinda throws the A/R off a little but it's really happy at idle in gear. Out of the hole it spikes lean-ish @ 13.5 then settles down to 12.0 with no hesitation at all. Part throttle at cruise it's 14.7 complete fluke to get that lol. WOT up to 5600 is 12.0 max timing is 28* which seems to be the max for the vortec heads I'm running.
Need some throttle positions to give to give you a guide really.

I had a 500rpm lean spot right at max torque at ~3700-4200 where it was close to 14 and everywhere else was upper 12s. I believe the power valve hadn’t opened yet and that’s right where she got thirsty. Ran great! Made me a firm believer that you can’t really tune without a wideband very well.
