Default 144 blower on 350 Questions

Looking for information and personal experiences on building an sbc with a small 144 supercharger rather than the more expensive procharger type setup. My first question is thermostat housing - what is out there for thermostat housing that will plumb cooling hoses to the exhaust and clear the snout of the blower? 2nd question - is it even worth building with a factory 4 bolt block? or just go SHP from the beginning? 3rd question - cam choice to run up to 52-5500 rpm. Not looking to build crazy numbers for this project, Looking at 8:1 static compression, approximately 4-5 psi boost and undecided on 350 or 383 for displacement. Target fuel is 91 premium and with these numbers, I think I can safely run the 4-5lb. of boost without detonation. This will be a carb. setup with GLM cast manifolds and extended IMCO risers that are 3" extra height and 10" extra length to water mix point. Risers are setup with oxygen sensors for dual AFR. Final question is it worth the trouble of boost, or just go with a large cubic inch N.A. stroker build out of a SHP block (421 or 434)? Motor is replacing a 350 MAG setup.

Do the blower, get a Daytona sensors box and you can manage things. CP performance has stat housings that clear blower snouts in their cooling stuff page. I'd be sure to do the math and give enough ring gap. Also you'll want thermostatic oil cooling. What about a water to air intercooler. $
You are smart to do AFR it's essential.
Does your engine compartment have enough overhead room?

Are your pockets deep enough for an LS? They have stout bottom ends. Of course a Dart block would too.

This build was to be for a Mariah 22' open bow. I just finally was able to look at how the boat is rigged. It wasn't a MAG/Bravo like the customer had told me. It's a std. 350 / alpha gen 2... Discussing building a N/A 383 similar to what I have in my own 21' now to preserve the alpha as much as possible. One other issue I came up with in sourcing parts was blower compatible pistons. Best thing I could come up with was a 31cc D-Dish (only available in a 4.030 bore and 6" rod) This would get the build to 8.2:1 static. Other options: change heads to 72 cc chambers with 26cc dish or 22cc dish. Anyone know of off the shelf pistons to get a 383 down to 8:1 with 64cc heads?

Really surprised b18cls1 that you are able to run even 4psi with that high of static compression. Are you able to run much distance with the throttle down, or just limited sprints? Maybe you're pulling timing back, but that's gotta be putting a lot of stress on the exhaust valves?

Still filing information away on this, as I'd still like to build a blown sbc when the right boat comes along, maybe twins if a nice 28 donzi ever follows me home...

RaceTec could likely make you a set to your specs. Not sure of the cost though.
