Hi there, been a while since I posted, because the area I cruise in, I'm the fastest, haven been beaten for maybe 5 years. Baja rules!:-) But I have a prop question now...
Some data:
2002 29 Outlaw with twin MX6.2, freed up intake and free exhaust, with 23" Mirage Plus from BBlade and filed sharp enough by me to cut a garden hose in two when pulling it across a blade. For years I did 60-65 mph/5000-5200, depending on weather and fuel etc.
Last winter:
Got Whipplecharger updated computers which adds timing and raises revlimit to 5600, we have the fuel that can handle it, enough octane. So this year I got it to 67-8 mph/5350. Late this season I got 65 mph/5025 (one tach shows 4950, the other just above 5100)
The aim:
1. Go faster. Utilize the 5600 limit or at least 5400+?
2. More hold. Getting our of the water takes patience and finesse. If props have growth on them, barnacles, I can't get it out of the water, tried that once (I now take props off when stationary in harbour).
3. Something new. My props are worn after 8 seasons, both from my filing sharp edges and from being wirebrushed clean when growth takes over (not a problem going forward as I now take them off when stationary)
So, do I have the right props? Could I benefit from a non-Plus Mirage, a Bravo 1, or something new and fancy? Any ideas are welcome.

Send them back to Brett for freshening and maybe some changes after talking with him. As you say remove them to eliminate the growth. Leave your file in your tool box, spare your water hose.

Mark, thanks for input. But without going back to all that, I didn't have a good customer experience buying these props from BBlades, so I don't intend to do more business there. Others are happy dealing there, good for them, me not...

I'd say a good place to start is a pair of 22P bravo 1's. You should get more bite out of the hole and keep or raise the RPM a tad. Once you get a baseline look into labbing them or adjust the pitch to get your desired results. If your getting barnacles on the props its happening to the bottom of the boat as well which will affect performance as well.

Another unhappy person who used Bblades... Common theme
Call up FJ prop or Cutting edge prop. Get them cleaned up and give them the info you put on here. Both of them can make some minor changes and get you what your looking for.
Leaving a boat or prop in the water to long will cause it to slow down until its taken out and cleaned.

Thanks
iaoutlaw, the bottom and drives are painted with anti fouling paint, so only a handful of barnacles there, but the props are naked, so they fill up
hustlerguy, two things. BBlades sent me custom props (@$$$) that were supposed to give me more speed and lift. When I tested the BBlades props vs the worn Mirages that came on the boat when I bought it used, the BBlades props made the boat harder to get up and slower(!). OK, so they made a mistake, it happens, so I asked for another pair and would send the wrong ones back, the season had started. But BBlades wanted me to send the props back, let them have a go at it again, they would then send them to me again. But they wanted me to pay for return freight across the Atlantic and I would be without my "fast" props for many weeks perhaps in our short season. And the props I would get back, would they be better? Why didn't they get it right the first time? How much trial and error (partly at my expense) could I expect? After talking/mailing with Brett, I must admit I lost confidence in BBlades, and cut my losses. I took the props, filed them sharp and removed some of the cupping, and they were the fastest ever. Which was of course just pure luck, I know...
So hustlerguy, with the distances/cost sending here to Denmark, I'll only buy off the shelf props, spent too much money on custom props that don't work, but thanks for suggestion. Unless there are good prop companies in Europe, but never heard of one...

Try Fa Kirschbaum in Austria (Wien) ! They do a good job!
By the way you get not much Power of your chargers. My friend have an 29 OL with also 6.2 and go faster as yours without Chargers.Looks there is something not working good!

Just scavenged the attic. I knew I had 10+ years old props there. I found I have 25P non-Plus Mirages and 24 Bravo 1. As I remember the boat couldn't get above 4800 rpm, but was still 63-64 mph. But since it has a little more power now from the flashed computers, they might. If not I'll file them also, if I ruin them it's no loss....
OK, so thanks for input, I won't buy any props now, I have plenty to test and play with next spring :-)
