Default 500EFI cams in 454 mag?

I have been searching for 731 cams with no luck for my gen 6 454 mag on roids builds. I found some 500EFI cams on the cheap, the specs are close to the crane 731s. Has anyone tried this? results? The engines are carbed, SM exhaust, upgraded oil cooling system. Thanks

I put cams similar to 500 efi's in my 420's. They are andrews cores bought through teague but same specs. They sound great, quite a bit of lift though, you will need good valve train.

I put the Comp Cams 525EFI clone (near identical to Crane 741) and they recommended the dog bone lifter setup. I checked with Eddie Young and he said run ‘em and be happy, and I triple checked the set up for clearance and travel and it all looked great. I’ve heard great things about the Comp Cams short travel lifters if you want tie bar lifters, but the cams you got should work with the stock dog bones if you wish. I did need new push rods though.

I ended up buying the complete heads, lifters and push rods from the same engines the cams came from. the only part of the valve train that was not included were rockers and I have harland sharp rockers already purchased. I may swap springs just to be safe
