Question fuel fiter

I have a 8.2 Merc . in a Formula. I have the cool fuel system on the port side of the motor. I have nothing bet.the tank and the cool fuel. I was thinking on putting a Fuel/ Water filter bet the tank and cool fuel. I'm thinking that something in line could only help??? Would that filter cause a flow reduction for the motor? I just think something before the motor to catch any fuel contaminants would be a good thing, not to mention the ease of changing that filter more often than the other. ???

I have nothing between the tank and the cool fuel.
The 8.2 came with a spin on filter canister mounted above the fuel pump on the starboard side. Suggest installing one of those back on
