I am rerigging the transom of an Eliminator 22 Daytona Blackhawk Edition. Adding hydraulic steering, swim steps, static tunnel tabs. Deleting awful Bennett tabs and the transom rotting clamshell cable seal. Anyway after all the hardware there will be little room on the transom. The black soot is very hard to keep detailed around hardware with gel coat. Would it be better to use awlgrip or some other product? I am just going to do area under rubrail so matching color will not be extremely tough.

Unless they've done something I haven't yet heard about there's only 2 Awlgrips . The original and the newer Awlcraft 2000 . With the 'original' what comes out of the gun is what you get , take it or leave it , (or re-do again) The 2000 is 'repairable' , can be buffed lightly or blown in. Either type should suit your application as you're probably not going to get bruises and dings on your transom like you would on the hull sides.
