ever since buying our trailer brand new from Real Extreme in Miami we have had issues with it. Tho was a brand new trailer purchased in 2015.
For whatever reason when towing the brakes lock up causing us to drag the caliper and overheat the hub. Always pull over to check it and hope it doesn’t happen again. These are sporadic events. This past year thinking it was the coupler I bought a new Titan model 20. Low and behold on the last trip same thing happened.
We have even even gone as far as replacing some of the problematic calipers thinking they might be corroded. Mind you this trailer is never used. Which might be some of the problem. It sits at the marina and goes 200’ every weekend to the launch and then back to its spot. Very rarely will it go on a 100 mile trek to RI.
Any insight is appreciated.

Check to see if there is a check valve in the master cylinder (you maybe using a drum master cylinder). Drum brake master cylinders have a check valve on the inside that regulates the psi and may cause binding if used in a disk application.

On automotive applications, I have seen rubber hoses deteriorate and come apart inside creating a restriction that acts as an orifice and holds pressure in the line. As heat builds at caliper problem escalates.I guess you have rubber lines at each caliper and the master cyl.
Just realized your trailer is probably to new for lines to be bad, but worth checking.

I agree with the recommendation to upgrade to EoH. The reliability is much better than the Surge system, not to mention is a MUCH more effective braking option. It works in reverse when/if you are sliding down a ramp, also works when turning. If using a Surge Braking system and you need to brake suddenly in a turn OR during a panic stop and the truck and trailer get into a “kink” the Surge brake system will let up and push the rear of the tow vehicle around into a full jack-knife or worse.
Its worth the investment.

the trailer coupler I purchased is specific for a disc brake setup. Titan does sell both. Think I have the right one.
