Default Donzi 28zx twins with diff water temp questions.

I have a new to me 98 Donzi with twin mpi 350s. Port engine runs at 160. Starboard runs around 170 to just under 180 depending on load. Is this a huge problem. I just changed impellers and I don’t recall it being an issue before I changed them. Is it possible I hooked up the raw water pump hoses backwards which is causing the higher temp. Neither of the old impellers were broken. It was preventative maintenance. I don’t have a water gun and haven’t pulled the thermostat yet. First boat with twins so I’m not sure it it’s normal.

You did not hook the hoses up backwards. In fact, I'm not sure how you could even do that. It is possible the gauges always read differently and you just are now noticing it as you are more closely paying attention to the gauges after the impeller change. It is not unusual at all on a twin engine boat with analog gauges to have the volts, water temp, oil pressure, etc. read different between the two engines.

When you changed impellers, did you also swap out the housings or did you just install new impellers? Also, were they Merc impellers or Sierra? Do you have water pressure gauges?

No gauges. I was told the impellers were 3 years old so i just replaced them as preventative maintenance. Not sure on the impellers brand. Probably generic.

Also housings and plates were not changed. I suspect I may be trapping air inside the housing.
