Was wondering if anyone knows how the fuel tank in the 292 Fastech are vented. I am getting a fuel smell in the cabin when the mooring cover has been on. No fuel smell in the engine compartment.

My 2006 292 gas tank is vented at the fill tube. A pick-up for each engine and the vent are located at the back of the gas tank (so three total). The vent tube internal to the tank makes a 90° turn and runs to the front since the tank is angled down with the boat in the water and it needs to get above the gas level.
Under the back seat there is a center panel that you remove to access all three. Do you notice the fuel smell more with a full tank? The pick-ups are 90° barb fittings with a pipe thread and odds are with a very full tank one may be leaking slightly. Even without a full tank, when running and sloshing around gas can leak. I had that issue and removed both fittings and sealed them up using some good fuel resistant sealant on the pipe threads. Permatex #2 works well.
Good luck and get it fixed soon.

4mulafastech thanks for the reply. I removed the cover last night and mine which is a 2005 has the fill tube, 2 lines that come out which have the 90 degree bend and go to the engine compartment and I figure those are the fuel pickup lines, then I have 2 lines that appear to have a barb fitting which are the same size line as the other 2 lines and they are pointing toward the back but I’m not sure if they go to the engine compartment. I was thinking they might have been fuel return lines, if those are vent lines where would they vent to the exterior of the boat.

I also have a fuel smell in my 292. It occurs only when running, but I did remove that 'panel' under the back seat to find the top of the fuel tank COVERED in black goo. I've not had time to check it out again. Zero smell when docked or idle. Only on throttle, but when cleaning the top of the tank I did notice a fuel like shine. I plan to revisit the problem soon. Let us know what you find out! Thanks.

Well I followed the vent lines from the tank and they do go to the fill port. I made sure all the fittings on the tank were tight and the fuel level sensor screws were tight. I also altered the gas cap a bit to make sure it vented better, after running 1 1/2 tank of fuel thru it this weekend I am not smelling any more fuel smell. Right now it’s setting with close to a full tank so I will uncover it in a few days. Hopefully no fuel smell.
