Default can it be done? a TR-2 outdrive mated to a Mercruiser d-tronic 250?

I have the drive with the gear which had been mated to a Mercruiser 330 engine but a d-tronic diesel is available locally and I am wondering what hurdles would have to be overcome to mate the diesel to the Merctrans II gear? (I am assuming the drive itself can easily take the diesel's torque)

Merc Trans II will never withstand the torque of a diesel.

Drive ratio might be a problem with diesel. Diesel is pretty low rpm.
