Hi all
Figured I would send another update. After all the work I did over the winter replacing the engine and many other parts while the engine was out it looks like a very short season. Plagued with some bugs the first few trips seemed to get everything working great. Had a few trips with no problems which was nice. Babied it keeping the engine around 3000 rpms just to gain some trust in it. Last trip did a 20 mile run and decided to open it up to see what it would do just before getting back in the harbor.. Got it up to 4000 rpms heard it cough and now it’s knocking. A mechanic friend of mine seems to think it’s a rod bearing. Not sure if I’ll have the time to fix before the season ends. Just sucks after all the time and money spent to only have it in the water for a few weeks. Could be worse but I must say I’m bummed out. Thanks for listening to my rant. Lol

After being out of the water for over a year. Had my new twin engine setup eat three cam lobes in less then five hours of run time. So I know your frustration. The good part of that story is. Both motors came out and bigger better power went in. Now to sell the one good motor I have

Some of our Formulas just don't like change. Had a similar situation to yours, rebuilt the motors - ran to 4000K after an hour or 2 and heard a pop and sputter. Was bad enough to see somke in the engine bay.
Pulled the motor the next day, hopefully you're as lucky. Found two injector wires on the wrong cylinders. Only had to replace two valves and seats and one HOT plug - the weak link was the plug that got so hot the the insulator ble out anf=d left the threaded section in the head. Dumb mistake, cost a few bucks to fix but well ahead of the marina costs.
If you can, pull the filters and cut them open. Look for copper or metal in the paper element inside. It will confirm if you spun a bearing.

Thanks guys!! Haven’t had any time to do anything with it. Was hoping to get more than 3 weeks out of the season but I think a break from working on it will do me some good. Lol. There’s always next season. Maybe I’ll fix this engine sell it and build a 502 for it. I’ll keep updating when I start working on it again
