This is a KE housing, Mercury rear mount , Mercury starter .
I have a 1 1/2” from the starter teeth to the mount plate.
This black starter pad trim ring adds another 1/8".
Do I need to have the starter pad machined down 3/8" ?
I assume that when KE had these made that he "incorporated" the starter pad to accoodate for a rear engine mount ?

Trying to understand if I need to have the housing machined down to accommodate the rear engine mount install. Have to have the gear ring flipped and install the mount. Don't want to bolt all together and find out the starter won't engage the flywheel.

Yes, ring has to be flipped. Need longer dowel pins as well.
I guess I need to measure the width of starter gear tonight.. Ring gear is 1/2" so , gear needs to extend 1/4" before engaging ring gear. total 3/4" travel for total ring engage.
. That sound right?

I went from a block mount starter ( bravo application ) to a tranny drive and the only thing I needed to do was move the ring gear and put on the correct starter and it worked fine, no machining
