Power steering pump difference

What is the difference between a MerCruiser power steering pump with the pressure return on the bottom of the reservoir and in the middle of Reservoir?

Ayuh,..... I believe that if the hi-pressure hose fittin' clears the head, ;n bracket, yer just fine with either,.....
